Credit Card Processing In Today’s Online Market
Monday, January 18th, 2010
In today’s online market, customers want to be able to quickly and easily make purchases and know that their items are going to be delivered as quickly as possible. In traditional stores, cash and checks are fine because there’s no wait time—customers generally get their purchases right away. However, when shopping online, delivery time has to be taken into account. There’s no time for customers to be billed, mail in a check, and then get their product. Nor do businesses necessarily want to ship a product with a bill and then wait until the customer decides to send in their payment. Credit card processing, then, is absolutely necessary for any online business.
You will need to work with a merchant account provider. These companies handle the authorization of credit cards and will let you know if the card has been accepted or declined. Don’t worry about getting all of this code and such into your website. Most companies have made the process very easy. In fact, generally all you have to do is copy and paste some code onto your site. If you have any trouble with this, the credit card processing company should have a tech support or helpline to help you with getting everything set up and running.
Before you start offering a payment by credit card option for your customers, there’s one more thing you need to look in to: security. Make sure your website is set up to be completely secure so that no personal information can be hijacked. All credit card processing companies should be secure, and generally there is no question as to whether or not your customer’s information is safe. It is. It’s always best, however, to double check and ask about the security measures the processor takes to save yourself and your customers trouble down the line.
